First Year at ACA: 2026

Alaina graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with her Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Creative Writing with a concentration in poetry. During her tenure as a graduate student, she also taught collegiate creative writing classes.

Though she has lived in Colorado for the past three years, she originally hails from the Midwest. Born in Wisconsin, she moved with her family to Indiana when she was in fourth grade. She attended DePauw University— a small Indiana liberal arts institution—as an Eli Lilly Scholar, obtaining a degree in English.

Previously, she has worked as a special education paraprofessional, grant writer, and journalist. She credits these experiences, along with her time as a collegiate instructor and the impact of her father (a teacher of over 40 years), as the primary reasons she uncovered her passion for teaching.

In her free time, Alaina loves to be outdoors, read, laugh, and organize. She doesn't enjoy red peppers, Daylight Savings, or getting rocks in her shoes.
